Old Buzzard and Red Oaks
Hi Everybody!!
Welcome, please come in and get comfortable! I have set up this blog for next year 2012 as my official Garden and Birding Diary of the events and living things around Kates Cabin Bird Sanctuary on Rainbow Creek in N. Waller County, Texas, USA, Earth.
If you are following my birds or the Migration birds, you can view a map of the area in Google Maps.
The address to enter is:
24562 Tyrone Street, Hempstead, Texas
This is a depressed rural community for people, but a very rich woods for the birds! The ecosystem I am in is called the Post Oak Savannah. Here is a link:

Many of the trees on the grounds of Kates Cabin are named Texas Red Oaks. They are in our photostudy for today. For more info the link is:http://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/ornamentals/natives/quercustexana.htm
The buzzards are staying here in Texas for their winter home. There are 2 kinds that now live together: the turkey buzzard and the black vultures from Mexico. The turkey buzzards have the red heads. You can see more about these birds here:

Today I wrote the text on the images. Lets test that out!!

December Days and Dragonflies
Hi Everybody!!
Come in out of the cold December day and relax for a moment. I wanted to share with You one thing I have done in December the last several years as You may want to do it also.
If you are a birder or gardener I have found a good way to keep a yearly journal. I use my camera to shoot daily what is happening in the garden. The images are date stamped so you will have a digital record of what is blooming on what day, etc.
I use the blog for posting what is happening around the garden and in the trees at Kates Cabin Bird Sanctuary in Texas. I am located about 50 miles NW of Houston outside of a little town named Hempstead. In reference to tree location, I am in the Post Oak Savannah. I am in Garden zone 9. I live in a cabin in the woods and have another cabin studio, guest quarters, and bird sanctuary. Most of what I post will be from this area.
I believe by sharing what we learn about Nature where we live, gives huge platform for more understanding of all life on Earth living with us.
Keep your eyes open and cameras ready as there is always something to see!!
Today our gift from the garden is mating dragonflies.
To see more information about these little jewels, here is the link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragonfly
These creatures are highly regarded in Japan. In some other places, they are associated with evil. Here on Rainbow Creek they are most Welcome as they eat mosquitoes and flies!!
Hope you found this interesting! See You next time.

Testing, 1, 2, Testing, 1, 2.........Hello!! Anybody There??
Hi Everybody!
Welcome to Kates Cabin Bird Sanctuary on Rainbow Creek in N. Waller County, Texas. This is our Google Blogger Location. As this is the second Post on the new Blogger, I am doing a test run today.
I am asking for feed back from You who are looking at this Post!
Would you let me know if you see a comment box? My first Post yesterday was of the red Trees of Rainbow Creek. Could you see all the images or just one? Today I am posting the Buzzards, who are my current guests at the Bird Sanctuary (Their Choice!) I do not know why they come here, but they come every November and leave in early Spring. Over the more than 20 years, we have become friends! They are very interesting birds. We will discuss more about them once I know this is working and You can see it!!
So, if you have a second, say hello or something. If there is not a place to comment, you can send me a message on the Google+. I am +brendasue. Some more images now from Rainbow Creek!
This is the one I call King Buzz!! He is waving Hello!!!!
These large birds have many names like: Buzzard, Turkey Buzzard, Turkey Vulture, Black Vulture, to name a few. You can discover more info about them at the following link:
http://web4.audubon.org/bird/BoA/F1_G1b.html
They gather in the evening in several trees that are dead. They space each other to look as if they are part of the tree. Like statues, they watch the others come in for the night. At dark, they fly up to the tall pine trees on the creek.
These are some of the most social, graceful and smart birds I have ever known. Hope you will enjoy seeing these incredible birds for the next couple of months.
So, this a TesT!! Can you see the blog? Is it easy to read? Does it look good? If you can connect to me you will see it automatically.
Please let me know here or g+ if you found me again.
