Welcome Everybody!
The Dogwood Trees of Kates Cabin Bird Sanctuary in Texas are my Most Favorite Trees! I have more Dogwoods on this one acre than anywhere else in the county. They are all in full bloom this week and gorgeous! There is Great Peace and Grace in the Memory Garden and I know Mom can see me! To accent the dogwoods, I have other white blooms at the same time: white azaleas, bridal wreath shrubs, viburnums, gardenias, citrus and more. For one week, this place is Heaven On Earth.
I guess that means for one week, I am an Angel-Blow the Trumpet!
All images are from my yard and creatively edited by me in Picasa and Picnik programs. Enjoy your photostudy and the Bonus!
I Love You and thank You for coming to visit my pages.

This story about the Dogwood Tree is a legend.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legend (Definition and examples of)
Legend, typically, is a short (mono-) episodic, traditional, highly ecotypified historicized narrative performed in a conversational mode, reflecting on a psychological level a symbolic representation of folk belief and collective experiences and serving as a reaffirmation of commonly held values of the group to whose tradition it belongs."
A legend (can be about) a historical person, real or not. The stories of the person are accepted as true and the person is larger in legend than he likely was in life. (example: the legend of Big Foot; the legend of Robin Hood or King Arthur).
A legend (is/can be) a folk story/song, that has been handed down through the generations and considered to be true even if there are no facts. The following dogwood tree legend is a Christian legend. There are no facts supporting this claim in the Bible. (that I know of)
I did not write the following text. It is copied and pasted from public website: http://www.promiseofgod.com/dogwood/
Two thousand years ago, few trees in the Middle East were big enough to construct anything. However, one tree was valued above the others for its thick trunk and fine, strong wood.
" Because of your regret and pity for My suffering, never again shall the dogwood tree grow large enough to be used as a cross. Henceforth it shall be slender and bent and twisted and its blossoms shall be in the form of a cross--two long and two short petals. And in the center of the outer edge of each petal there will be nail prints, brown with rust and stained with red, and in the center of the flower will be a crown of thorns, and all who see it will remember."
