Hi Everybody! Please Come In!
I hope You all had a good weekend. In the Nature Blog tonight we are going to look at the Nature of Squirrels and the Nature of Squirrelly People.
Your photostudy tonight is of my squirrel, Casper, a cute and smart squirrel. When I turn the sprinkler on, she climbs onto her post and takes a shower! She knows when the water is close before the stream hits her! She changes her position!
Later down the page, we will look at squirrelly people in action! Enjoy!

Squirrel
Squirrels belong to a large family of small or medium-sized rodents called the Sciuridae. The family includes tree squirrels, ground squirrels, chipmunks, marmots (includingwoodchucks), flying squirrels, and prairie dogs. Squirrels are indigenous to the Americas, Eurasia, and Africa, and have been introduced to Australia. The earliest known squirrels date from the Eocene and are most closely related to the mountain beaver and to thedormouse among living species.

Feeding
Squirrels cannot digest cellulose, so must rely on foods rich in protein, carbohydrates, and fats. In temperate regions, early spring is the hardest time of year for squirrels, because buried nuts begin to sprout and are no longer available for the squirrel to eat, and new food sources have not become available yet. During these times, squirrels rely heavily on the buds of trees. Squirrels' diets consist primarily of a wide variety of plants, including nuts, seeds, conifer cones, fruits, fungi and green vegetation. However, some squirrels also consume meat, especially when faced with hunger.[6] Squirrels have been known to eat insects, eggs, small birds, young snakes and smaller rodents. Indeed, some tropical species have shifted almost entirely to a diet of insects.[10]

Living among us Nature Lovers are the Squirrelly Humans. They look normal enough, but something has snapped in their heads. They are usually among well-intentioned birdwatchers. They love the birds and provide great habitat and feeding stations.
Now this is generally what happens: While lovingly watching the wild birds eat, a squirrel may appear to join the feast! For whatever reason, the squirrel is labeled: intruder. The squirrelly people, (for whatever reason), begin to hate the squirrel. Some count how much seed is being consumed by the squirrels, even calculating the dollar amount lost on the 'tree rats'. The next phase of the illness, they begin to plot against the squirrels. They intend to outsmart the stupid squirrel. They are convinced they can stop the squirrel from taking seed from the birds. They may start to believe that the squirrel is plotting against them because (usually) the squirrel does out smart them! These people will go to Extremes to stop the bandits. The following videos are a collection of the assaults against the squirrels. They are all short, some less than a minute. I did not include any videos in which the squirrel dies. You will not believe what some of these "people" come up with. Most of these are funny because what else can you do but laugh at the madness these people show us!!!! I am not naming any names here or accusing anybody of anything. I am just saying: It is what it is.

DeleteEin wirklich ganz erstaunlicher Blog . Ich komme ganz bestimmt noch mal wieder . Wünsche Dir einen schönen Donnerstag !
ReplyDeleteHallo Gisela! Danke!! Love To You!
DeleteHa ha...loved this blog! We have had to do our share of work to keep the squirrels off of our bird feeders in the past but we've never gotten as creative as some of the videos you posted. I was sitting here laughing out loud at some of the antics! We don't hate our squirrels, in fact most of them I had eating out of my hand. I even had one that would climb up my pants leg all the way up to my shoulder and head where I would feed it! And many years ago we raised two baby gray squirrels who had been abandoned... Sadie and Sam we named them. It was a wonderful experience for our family. We had them inside in a big cage but we let them out to run around the house. When they were old enough we started taking them outside and eventually returned them to the wild. Eventually they would no longer eat from our hands and became wild like they were meant to be. Thanks Brendasue for sharing all your squirrely stories!
ReplyDeleteHi Lana!! Thanks for sharing your story! Squirrel up the pants leg is not happening with me! Thank You for coming to visit the Blog and I appreciate hearing from You! Our mutual friend does not read the blog!!!!
